With only a few weeks to go, plans are well under way for Burnham Town Show.

The show, which marks the end of Burnham Week -- one of Britain's top yachting events -- takes place at Millfields on September 2.

Promotions officer Peter Layzell said: "We are sticking to a country theme, with live country music all day.

"We always try to have something different each year and this year we are having a decorated mobility scooter competition.

"There will be a parade during the afternoon, to be judged by the mayor and the carnival queen. We also have a craft fair in the adjoining sports hall, and a dog show."

Various sideshows and other entertainment will run from 12 noon at the free event.

The evening will be rounded off with a firework display by the Joint Clubs Committee, which organises Burnham Week.

The town show is run by an independent committee which provide onshore entertainment for residents and visitors to coincide with Burnham Week.

Now organisers are hoping for fine weather. Mr Layzell said: "We had four years in a row when it rained, although last year we had sun on and off. This year, we could really do with a sunny day."

n There is still space for more charity stalls or commercial stands, and anyone interested should call Terry Hare on 01621 783321.
