A man was battling for his life today (Tuesday) following a collision with a crane just before the Pitsea slip road on the A13.
Police said the man, trapped inside a Ford Transit van, was bleeding heavily from a serious head injury as ambulances arrived. Fire crews cut the victim free and he has now been transferred to Basildon Hospital.
Police have launched an investigation in to the incident which occurred at around 7.20am, between Basildon and Pitsea, involving a black and yellow crane.
The A13 was closed towards Southend, from Five Bells junction towards Sadlers Farm, causing rush hour chaos.
