West Horndon could soon have its own parish council if the village's borough councillor, Roy Boggis, has his way.

Cllr Boggis has contacted the electoral officer for Brentwood Borough Council and is now asking residents to sign the necessary petition.

The move follows an angry meeting of the West Horndon Residents' Association.

Many members were furious that the committee had sent a letter to the council, saying it had no objection to a controversial planning application to allow a storage depot on the former Brown and Tawse site.

But vice-chairman Barry Hughes says the letter was misinterpreted. "We have not said we are in favour of the application and we have not said we are in favour of the plans," he said.
