A prized pooch has scooped first place in a sponsored dogathon.

The aptly named Lucky Lady, owned by Maria Ingram, of Bertrum Avenue, Little Clacton, won the event by collecting the most sponsorship money.

The canine challenge was run by Headway Essex, which helps suvivors of brain injury and supports their families and carers.

It took place along Clacton seafront and 40 dogs from all over north-east Essex joined in.

The dogs and their owners walked from the Hazlemere Road Car Park along the seafront to the pier and back along the greensward.

Lucky Lady raised £200 sponsorship money.

In second place was Neil Relton, of Old Heath Road, Colchester, with his dog Jazz, who collected £110.

Mrs Ingram, 65, said her late husband bought Lucky Lady from an animal rescue centre in Gloucester ten years ago.

She added: "She is gorgeous, loves everybody and is a good house dog. She loves her walks and her treats."

It is hoped the event will raise about £1,000.
