The cost of parking in Maldon looks set to rise from April.

Increased charges to be levied at all main car parks are being recommended to Maldon District Council as part of a town centre car park review.

The proposed new charges were considered this week by the council's leisure services and community development select committee, although a final decision will not be made until full council meets on November 23.

Increases include 10p at White Horse Lane, bringing the cost of stays of up to one hour from 30p to 40p and one to three hours from 60p to 70p.

The charge for three to four hour stays will remain at £2, although the over four-hour charge will be doubled from £4 to £8 to discourage long stays.

All-day tickets at the car park for market traders will increase from £1.50 to £2.

At the Butt Lane and High Street East car parks increases of 10p are suggested for short stay, bringing charges up to 40p and 70p for up to one hour and one to three hour stays respectively, with long stay charges remaining fixed at £1 for three to four hours at £2 for over four hours.

A 10p levy is urged for stays of up to three hours at Friary Fields, bringing charges from 60p to 70p.
