A boy aged about 10 was driving a car involved in a crash in Chelmsford last Saturday - with three passengers aged about 10 or 12.
The car was involved in a collision with another, driven by a 32-year-old Chelmsford woman. The incident happened in Rutland Road around 1pm.
The woman, whose passenger was her 62-year-old mother, said that they were travelling along Woodhall Road when the accident happened.
"I got out and thought the people in the the other car were getting out to talk to me, but they ran off," she said.
"A witness said that the driver was about 10, and I also thought he was about that age. All the others were around 10 or 12. They all ran towards Patching Hall Lane."
Police were immediately alerted and searched the area, but the four could not be found.
"I think it is disgusting that someone young like that should be driving with other youngsters in a car," said the woman."
A Chelmsford police spokesman said that inquiries were continuing.
Anyone who can help trace the four schoolboys can contact the police on 01245 491212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
