An artist has braved icy winds and rain over to complete a photo-shoot of Canvey - on her bike.

Professional artist Ginny Reed, who lives in Leigh, is touring the island on her cycle to produce a series of pictures which will go on public display from next year.

The project has been spearheaded by Castle Point Council as part of the National Year of the Artist initiative which aims to celebrate artists in society.

Her boyfriend, Simon Monk, 34, said: "Ginny is using the bike so she can get a feel for the island. You can feel insulated in a car but on a bike you are exposed to everything on the island, which is what she wants.

"She said it has been cold and wet recently, but she is persevering."

Ginny, 29, has set up a temporary studio in the Paddocks Community Centre in the island's Long Road and she will be based there every Wednesday and Thursday until May.

She will be opening her studio to the public on February 7, March 7 and April 4, next year.
