The first round of the Hadleigh Carport Southend Borough Combination Gladwin Cup produced three away wins in the four ties played.

This all second team affair saw Walker's brace help Leigh Ramblers to a 4-0 win at Battlesbridge, while Collier got two for Shoebury Town, 4-2 winners at Southchurch Hall OS.

Trabble and Walker were on target for Catholic, who got home 2-1 at Earls Hall, while home joy was confined to Sibar Sports, where it was Green for go with a hat-trick in a 6-1 win over Borough Rovers.

The two Chautard Cup ties were close. Southchurch Hall 3rd won 4-3 at Cupids 2nd after extra-time, while White Ensign 3rd beat their Catholic counterparts 2-1.

Southchurch Hall's 4th team were on the wrong end of an extra-time scoreline at Southend Collegians 3rd in the Faux Cup. The college side came back from a 2-1 interval deficit to eventually win 5-4 with Brace grabbing a pair.

L Hammond pulled out the stops for Old Southendian 4th, scoring twice in a 3-0 win over Customs 2nd. Perry was in sparkling form with a two-goal strike as Catholic 4th beat Southend Rangers 2nd 4-2.

There were plenty of goals in the Cater Cup, Old Rochfordians 2nd leading the way with a 9-1 win over Thames Park 3rd. Clark got three and Spackman two for the winners. Naden (3) and Davis (2) helped Essendon triumph 5-3 at Glenwood 2nd.

Sleap was flying high for Flightspares 2nd with a double in his side's 4-0 win over their Leigh Town counterparts. Incidentally, the Leigh 2nd team are urgently in need of a manager and anyone able to help should ring 01702 343707.

Back in the League, White Ensign are romping ahead in the Reserve Division and this week thrashed Thorpe Athletic 12-0 with Spreadborough helping himself to six. Gibson stamped his class with a hat-trick.

In Division Three, Thames Park 2nd opened their win account when they beat Old Southendian 3rd 3-2 with Charalambous scoring two. Kings Field Casuals 2nd are the leaders following a 5-1 win at Shoebury OB 2nd.
