Store raided: Raiders who broke into Rayleigh's Sainsbury Homebase store in Purdeys Way grabbed around £4,000 of tools and equipment.

Man mugged: A man suffered cuts to his head after being pulled into a secluded alleyway and threatened with a broken bottle.

The 20-year-old victim was grabbed in Rochford Road, Westcliff, and punched twice in the face. Around £75 and a mobile phone was taken. The suspect is aged 25, 5ft 10ins and thin.

Driver dies: An elderly Rayleigh man died at the wheel of his car after he suffered a suspected heart attack.

Anthony Salvage, 72, of Burrows Way, Rayleigh, was driving along Valkyrie Road in Westcliff, early on Saturday when he began to feel unwell.

He lost control of the car which crashed into a parked car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, who was a passenger, was not hurt.
