Some of Chelmsford Borough Council's sheltered housing units are now being promoted on some of the council's web pages.

A new site lists the areas available with details of facilities provided and rents.

There are a number of sheltered complexes throughout the borough, providing unfurnished homes with the needs of older people in mind.

The council says that comfortable accommodation is provided in a setting allowing residents to maintain their independence with the assurance of a warden living on site and links to the council's Careline alarm service so that help can be summoned at the touch of a button.

Properties usually available are a mixture of flats and self-contained studio accommodation, and are offered to anyone over the age of 60 - even if they are not currently a council tenant. Many are particularly suitable for single people.

The council points out that it also provides an opportunity for older people living outside the borough to move closer to their families in the area.

Anyone interested is invited to visit the sheltered housing website on www.chelmsfordbc.gov.uk or telephone the Housing Needs Team on 01245 606669/606668/ 606485/606647.
