A pub in Witham with a new look may have a new and novel name but it is still in touch with the past.
The Norman Jarmyn Olde Ale House, in Newland Street has been named after the man who used to run it 20 years ago.
Mr Jarmyn, 69, worked behind the pumps for 14 years and still regularly drinks there.
He said: "I have been about in my time but I can't think of any publican who has had a pub named after them. I am absolutely chuffed to bits."
The owners, Kevin Whitnell and David O'Shaughnessy, have spent about £50,000 renovating the former Crotchet pub, which opened yesterday (Thursday) with its new name and a caricature of Mr Jarmyn as its new pub sign.
