Brentwood Swimming Club held the last two gala's of their annual Club Championships for the Year 2000 at the weekend.

Romford, Redbridge and Thurrock Swimming Clubs were represented with strong squads and provided stern competition.

Andrew Groom, the Boys Club Captain, produced the fastest time of 17.55.20 in the 1500m Freestyle and also 2.31.91 in the 200m Backstyle while the Girls captain, Alex Willoughby, also produced the overall fastest time of 2.29.81 in the 200m Backstroke.

Lauren Cogdale had an outstanding two evenings as she won the 400m Individual Medley in 5.27.42, the 200m Breaststoke in a time of 2.53.50, the 200m Individual Medley in a time off 2.30.76 and also the 200m Backstroke in a time of 2.31.21.

In his first ever 1500m Freestyle Daniel Hunt recorded the excellent time of 20:22.49 and in the 200m Backstroke a time of 2.50.43.

Tom West finished third in the 200m Individual Medley in a time off 2.42.02 and third in the 400m Individual Medley in 5.42.22 while in the same age group Daniel Phillips finished fifth in the 200m Individual Medley in a time of 2.48.90, fourth in the 400m Individual Medley in 5.58.21 and third in the 200m Backstroke in 2.49.50.

Other swims recorded during both gala's were: Hayley Camis 3.47.29 in the 200m Breastroke, Harriet Williams 3.40.85 in the 200m Breastroke, Holly Dunsdon 3.30.60 in the 200m Breastroke and 3.08.37 in the 200m Individual Medley. Matthew Tarbard sixth place in the 13/14 age group Boys 200m Individual Medley in a time of 2.50.41, Chris Horton second place in the 15/16 age group Boys 400m Individual Medley in a time of 5.31.56, Emily Cole third place in the 12 & Under age group 200m Backstroke in a time of 2.44.45, and also third place in the 200m Individual Medley in a time of 2.53.50.

Christie Mecklenburgh took second place in the 12 & Under age group 200m Backstroke in a time of 2.41.39, Rebecca Sutton sixth place in the 13/14 age group 200m Individual Medley in a time of 2.52.73, and Emma Harding 3.37.76 in the 200m Individual Medley.

The Championships have now closed and preparations are being made for the clubs presentation evening in January when those swimmers in the 12 and over age groups who gained places in the Internal Club Championships will be awarded for the excellent standard that has been attained over the last few weeks.
