An angry shopkeeper has claimed he had been let down by police after a walk-in theft at his store.

Chris Keeble, of Sound and Vision Electronics at The Triangle, Frinton, said a thief made off with a £245 Dyson vaccum cleaner in August.

But 12 weeks later he is still waiting for a copy photograph of the man from his in-store closed circuit television camera after a member of staff handed the video over to officers investigating the crime.

Mr Keeble said he had written to the Chief Constable of Essex, the Home Office and Harwich MP Ivan Henderson over his complaint.

"I appreciate the pressures the police are under and I am not getting at individuals," he said today (Tuesday).

"But I feel that I have not received the level of service that I expect, or am entitled to, and no-one seems to care."

Mr Keeble said his aim was to use the photograph to circulate around the area and offer a reward in the hopes of catching the man responsible.

Supt Patrick Rice, divisional commander for Tendring, said he had taken the matter up with the officer concerned in the case and had identified the large number of inquiries made so far and others which were in hand.

"We certainly have not finished this investigation and Mr Keeble will be kept informed of what is happening," he added.

Supt Rice said that he was not able to supply the picture to be circulated in the public domain as it would infringe human rights.
