Concerned residents say it is not safe to cross their road and are calling on rush hour motorists to slow down.

Homeowners in Faulkbourne and White Notley are demanding the road be made safer and have written to Essex Police asking them to slow cars using the main road through their villages.

Faulkbourne Road is a 60 mph route connecting Witham with the villages of White Notley and Black Notley.

But residents say motorists fail to slow down as they enter the 30 mph speed limit for Faulkbourne and White Notley.

Margaret Galione, Braintree councillor for Terling, who lives in Faulkbourne Road, said: "We'd like to see a speed limit extended from Witham to Faulkbourne.

"The people of this village can't cross the road safely because the village speed limit isn't being enforced."

Mrs Galione wrote to Essex County Council and the police calling for a 40 mph speed limit between Faulkbourne and Witham, but as no houses line the road her request has been refused.
