Police are appealing for witnesses to a vicious attack which left a Witham man with severe face and head injuries.

The attack on the 28-year-old man took place in Alan Road and left the victim needing stitches and staples in his head.

A fight broke out on a grassy verge near the Hatfield housing estate when the victim was set upon by a group of men.

Police are eager to hear from anyone who witnessed what they are describing as a vicious attack.

A spokesman for the police said: "As a result of this attack, the man was left needing 50 stitches to his mouth and three staples in his head."

Police have just released details of the incident, which took place on Friday, November 10 at about 7pm.
