Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled a blaze in a disused accommodation block at Orsett Hospital at the weekend.
After forcing their way into the locked block of flats crews found three different seats of fire on the first floor -- mainly piles of papers.
"Luckily the smoke alarms were still wired up and we were notified quickly," said a spokesman for the Essex Fire and Rescue Service at Orsett.
He added that the block had been out of use for around six weeks and that fire investigators were probing the blaze.
