Chelmsford's parks and playing fields have recently received a number of awards from the Essex Playing Fields Association.

In the section for fields professionally managed and maintained by larger authorities, Admirals Park took the Tom Kelly Memorial Trophy and first prize certificate of merit for the best kept playing field.

The second prize certificate of merit went to Chelmer Park, and other certificates of merit were awarded to Compass Gardens and Saltcoats Park, South Woodham Ferrers, Central Park and Central Park Memorial Gardens, Oaklands Park, Tower Gardens, and Springfield Hall Park.

In the section for children's playgrounds, a certificate of merit went to Catherine Close at East Hanningfield.

A team of 52 staff looks after 590 hectares of parks and open spaces in Chelmsford borough.
