A man accused of breaking into a Colchester home and unlawfully imprisoning his former partner has appeared before magistrates.
James Yardley, 57, of no fixed address, is accused of assaulting and unlawfully detaining Betty Bruce, of Blackthorn Way, against her will on Sunday.
He is also accused of entering her house as a trespasser with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and having an imitation handgun in his possession.
Before Colchester magistrates yesterday (Tuesday), Yardley spoke only to confirm his name, age and address.
Magistrates have remanded him in police custody until Friday.
No application was made for bail at the hearing.
