The principal of the Adult Community College at Greyfriars in Colchester was due to receive his MBE from the Queen at an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace yesterday (Tuesday).
Alan Skinner was singled out for mention in the Queen's Birthday Honours list and will be accompanied at the ceremony by his wife Sylvia and children Andrew and Sarah. He has been awarded an MBE for services to adult Education.
Mr Skinner has been involved in adult education for 30 years and one of his many roles include being vice chairman of the national executive committee of the Educational Centres Association.
He came to Colchester in 1983.
