Young poet Lee-Anne Pawley beat off 33,500 hopefuls to scoop top prize in a national competition.
Lee-Anne, 11, a pupil from St Mary's CE Primary School, Southend, was travelling to a ceremony in London today with her mother to be presented with her award by Education Secretary David Blunkett. She also wins £1,000 in book vouchers and CD Rom vouchers for her school.
The national writing competition for schools, Write Here, Write Now, was launched by the Department for Education and Employment.
