Canvey Island stepped into uncharted territory and set up an all-Essex FA Cup derby when they beat Port Vale last night.

Two goals in extra time saw the team progress to the second round of the FA Cup while Southend United's win against Torquay means the two sides will meet in the next round.

Port Vale supporters applauded the Ryman League side, who were far from overawed by their visit to Vale Park.

It is the first time Canvey have appeared in the second round of the competition.

Former Ipswich Town trainee Neil Gregory put the side ahead in the first period of extra time and Wayne Vaughan sealed the victory on 119 minutes.

Tony Naylor got a goal back for Vale but it was too late to make any difference and was missed by many of the side's disillusioned fans who left before the final whistle.

The non-league outfit had already fought back in a thrilling 4-4 draw to set up the replay with just minutes to spare.

Leo Roget settled the match between Southend and Torquay at Roots Hall with a goal in the eighth minute of extra time after the sides drew 1-1 in 90 minutes.
