Billericay's Citizens Advice Bureau is still searching for volunteers so it can maintain and develop its vital services for local people.

Despite the relatively buoyant economic conditions, the CAB is still in demand and has seen the number of inquiries continue to rise over the past few years.

CAB manager Margaret Kebbell says a volunteer can expect challenging but rewarding work.

She said: "The CAB volunteer can expect to meet a wide range of problems, some relatively straightforward, others having a significant effect on their everyday life.

"CAB is still a service which is 90 per cent staffed by volunteers, yet it provides a comprehensive and professional standard of information, advice, support and representation.

"To enable it to continue and develop its work in response to the growing demands the steady recruitment of new advisers is a high priority and with a grant from the Essex Community Foundation we are able to offer some future training."

Billericay CAB offers assistance in a whole range of fields including personal relationships, employment, homelessness, benefit claims and debt.

Mrs Kebbell said: "The demands on the CAB has continued to grow despite increases in personal incomes and the falling levels of unemployment.

"One reason which may be contributing to this is the reduced availability of low cost or free legal advice.

"Another reason may be the steadily ageing population and the growth in the numbers who are entitled to welfare and other benefits."
