Motorists and bus users could see the end of months of misery as roadworks in Colchester were due to be completed today (Thursday).
The new scheme of bus lanes, traffic lights and a two-way system around Middleborough was expected to come into operation at noon - until a late delivery of asphalt put the opening back to 3pm.
The lane will operate 24 hours a day and will be available for use by buses, coaches, taxis, licensed private hire vehicles, cycles and motorcycles.
New traffic signals will make crossing the road easier for pedestrians at the bottom of North Hill.
