Goalkeeper Andy Woodman is set to play his last game for Colchester United - unless the U's make a move to extend his loan period or sign him permanently.

With regular number one Simon Brown currently sidelined with a foot injury, Woodman, who has kept clean sheets in both the games he has played so far, looks set to continue between the posts in Saturday's home game against Notts County.

Prevented by his club Brentford from playing in the U's FA Cup tie at Yeovil, the Notts County game is the last League match to fall within his loan period which ends on Saturday, December 9.

Colchester's first round LDV Trophy clash at Cambridge United is also scheduled within that period - Tuesday, December 5 - but whether Woodman will be allowed to play in that remains to be seen.

U's chief executive Marie Partner said: "There is nothing in the player's loan agreement that states he can't play in the Cambridge match.

"But when the agreement was drawn up details of the LDV Trophy were not known.

"As a matter of goodwill if Brentford contact us and request that Woodman doesn't take part we would probably heed their wishes in case we wanted to do a similar thing in the future."

U's boss Steve Whitton said: "Andy will probably play against Notts County because Simon Brown is still feeling very sore and didn't train yesterday.

"Simon has had another x-ray which fortunately proved negative, but it would be difficult to leave Andy out, especially as he hasn't conceded a goal".

The 29-year-old former Crystal Palace, Exeter and Northampton keeper says he is "enjoying the best form of his career."

He is currently on an unbeaten run of 15 games - two for the U's and 13 for Essex neighbours Southend where he was on loan for three months before switching to Layer Road.

Midfielder Andy Arnott will be available for the Notts County match after completing a three-match ban and Whitton is hopeful that injured duo Jason Dozzell and Gavin Johnson will also be in the reckoning.

Meanwhile, tonight's (Thursday's) reserve team game at Bristol Rovers has been called off because of a waterlogged pitch.
