Plans to find an alternative site for One 2 One's mobile phone masts on Canvey have come to a standstill, and concerned parents are demanding to know how this is affecting their children.

The mobile phone giants had promised to try to relocate their three radioactive antennae controversially installed next to Leigh Beck Junior School in Point Road, after furious complaints from parents.

It now appears other potential sites earmarked to host the masts, may not have adequate space.

Now that the antennae are activated and fully operational, incensed parents of children at the school are planning to undertake their own investigation into the health dangers.

Worried parent Ian Mcpherson said: "We would like to know exactly what our kids are being bombarded with.

"We are planning to arrange for someone to take radio frequency readings inside the school grounds but we will have to ask the school for permission first. We are worried our children could suffer memory loss and a reduction in resistance to illnesses."

One 2 One has stated all along that it complied with all the regulations and it made sure the beam of highest intensity did not land on the school grounds.

A spokeswoman for One 2 One said: "We are still looking for alternatives but we are no further on. Current exposure guidelines are designed to protect the public and we follow those guidelines."

The possible dangers of mobile phones were highlighted again this week when the Government confirmed it was planning to issue health warnings with all models.

Mr Mcpherson, speaking on behalf of the parent action group, said: "One 2 One is looking for a way out. We don't think it has any intention of moving.

"It promised us it would try other sites but now the dishes are fully operational we can't see it. Nevertheless we are still pursuing the matter and we won't give up."
