A bumper gift of £100,000 of high-tech equipment, which has 'kick started' a new unit, will help cut hospital patient waiting times, say delighted health chiefs.

And now they have said a heart-felt thank-you to the Harold Wood Hospital League of Friends for their overwhelming fundraising efforts.

The vote of thanks came from the chairman of the Havering Hospitals NHS Trust, Vijay Vasu, last week.

He expressed his pleasure at the donation at a special reception for senior clinical staff and staff at the Ambulatory Care Unit, where the new equipment will be used, at the Gubbins Lane hospital.

The £100,000 helped buy an image intensifier, a radio frequency generator and a X-ray table, which are already in action at the unit's pain clinic.

The equipment will offer a number of benefits to patients allowing the clinic to increase the number of patients they can treat and improve the service they receive.

It will also reduce waiting times and allow a wider range of procedures to be carried out which will in turn result in faster treatment for each patient.
