A contract has been awarded for the building of a new hospice.
It was announced yesterday (Thursday) that RG Carter, of Colchester, would be the builders for the new Clacton day centre.
Work is expected to begin in early January 2001, and is scheduled for completion in December.
However, fundraising efforts for the building are still continuing.
Proceeds from a variety of events have arrived at the hospice, including the raffle of a dolls house, which raised £870 and £400 was donated in the memory of a loved one.
Appeal director, Graham Reardon, said: "The people of Tendring are wonderful.
"With such marvellous enthusiasm from the community, the new building will be owned by the people for whom it will be providing much-needed cancer care services.
People with a fundraising idea should contact Graham Reardon on 01206 574995.
