Witham Town were unable to bridge the gap of two divisions as they were knocked out of the Essex Senior Cup on Wednesday, beaten 1-0 by visiting Ryman League division one side Romford.
Despite the result, manager Tony Kinsella was upbeat, commenting: "It's a game we could have won easily, we had plenty of chances.
"We played well. We used it as a training exercise to get a look at some of our fringe players like Mark Warriner, Simon Wright, Gino Defeo and Stuart Firth.
"They all came through well."
Romford's victory was secured with a deflected goal ten minutes from time.
More worrying for Kinsella, however, is the news that club top striker Glen Driver has sustained a knee ligament injury.
Kinsella said: "It's a big blow - he has scored 13 goals for us this season. The extent of his injury is not yet known but he could be out for between six and eight weeks."
