Olympic decathlete Dean Macey will be the guest of honour at a presentation night on Canvey to recognise the work of three young people.

On Monday, he will be presenting certificates to three young people who have given up their time for the good of the community. The Citizens' Advice Bureau in Long Road took part in a government- backed scheme to get young people involved in community work.

Ian Holroyd, 23, Jenny Ayassamy, 17, and Jon McDavitt, 17, took up the challenge. As part of the Millennium Volunteer project they each put in 200 hours working at the Citizens' Advice Bureau office. They used their individual skills to help support the volunteers already working at the bureau.

This included updating computer systems, compiling databases and general administration around the office.

Those that took part in the project are now set to be recognised for their commitment with a Millennium Volunteer Award.

Millennium Volunteer co-ordinator Paul Street said: "They have put in a lot of hard work and the awards reception is a way of recognising this."
