Train company c2c says it is hopeful passengers will start seeing the new Electrostar trains back in service by the New Year.
Spokesman for the company, Alan Wheeler, admitted the unexpected problems with the promised Electrostars meant the company only had 64 trains to cover a timetable needing 70.
To cover, some trains had been split so a full timetable -- although with reduced seating -- was maintained.
He added that six more obsolete slam-door-type trains were being taken out of mothballs which should mean full-length trains in stations at peak times. He said c2c was hopeful that the new trains would be in service soon.
