A scheme to bring computer training to residents on a Colchester estate is proving a success.

Residents on Greenstead have been able to take part in free IT courses on their doorstep.

Organised by Signpost, the advice service for unemployed, and held at Greenstead library, it has widened its net by helping young mums and community group members learn new skills.

The taster courses have involved staff from Colchester Institute and Greyfriars Adult Community College coming out to the estate.

A creche has been provided and many members of Sir Charles Lucas mother and toddler group have already taken part, learning basic IT and computer graphics.

More sessions are planned next year with a special course for people to be trained in running residents' groups, with advice on team building and structuring.
