The urgent engineering work following the Hatfield crash means that train companies which run the main line routes from Colchester will not be going into Liverpool Street on Christmas Eve.

First Great Eastern will be running extra trains on Friday December 22 and a spokesman said the company anticipated most people would be trying to get away for the holidays between 1pm and 5pm.

On Saturday December 23 a Sunday service will operate.

Trains will terminate at Ilford on Christmas Eve where a bus will take passengers to the underground.

Train services are expected to end at 10pm and tubes will run until 00.30am. No services First Great Eastern will operate on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
