The chairman of the Friends of Foundry Court Day Centre Shirley Horrigan said today the delay in making a decision about the Manningtree home was "demoralising" for the staff and residents.

"They don't know what is going to happen to them. They are on a knife edge all the time and the girls down there don't know whether they are going to be out of a job next week or not," she said.

The decision has been put off to allow time for talks between Tendring Council and a charitable trust which may take over the Foundry Court site.

Mrs Horrigan said: "We just have to hope and pray the trust comes up with the goods.

"I know the people of Manningtree and Mistley would fight tooth and nail to keep the home, there is nowhere else for them. That is how the parish feels."

The chairman of Lawford Parish Council Brian Rolfe said he was "disappointed" no final decision had been made regarding Foundry Court.

The home caters for people from Manningtree, Mistley, Lawford, Ardleigh, Great and Little Bromley, Bradfield and Dedham.
