A motorist was taken to hospital with head injuries after he was attacked by dog owners
The incident happened after there was an accident involving the motorist and a dog.
Three men were walking with a dog along Old Heath Road, Colchester, opposite the Co-op at about 7pm on Friday.
But the animal ran out across the road and it was in collision with a lorry and then the car.
Det Sgt Roger Napier, of Colchester police, said: "When the car stopped the three men assaulted the driver.
"He was taken to hospital with head injuries but has been released."
After attacking the driver, the men picked up the dog and ran off.
One was wearing a black Adidas jacket and a hat with a white Adidas logo on it.
Another was wearing a large black jacket.
