The year seven football squad from Canvey's Cornelius Vermuyden School could soon be showing their skills on the same Old Trafford turf currently graced by the likes of Teddy Sheringham and David Beckham.

They are through to the last 16 of the Manchester United Soccer School National Tournament.

Having qualified from the group stage, the lads defeated Deanes, Thundersley, in the semi-final after extra-time - winning 3-2 on penalties.

Then, in the local final, Furtherwick Park were beaten 2-1 opening up the prospect of a trip to the Mighty Reds if they can continue on the winning trail.

Thrilled head of boys' PE, Simon Cox, said: "We are all very excited for the boys and proud of their achievements so far.

"We are trying to get the boys a new kit for their appearance in the finals and would welcome any offers of sponsorship."
