Generous youngsters raided their piggy banks for spare change to help pupils less fortunate than themselves.
Year seven and eight students at Cecil Jones School in Cromwell Road, Southend, brought pennies and tuppences to class to raise a huge bucketful of money for the Monsterrat appeal.
The Caribbean island was devastated by a volcanic eruption in 1995. A fundraising campaign is under way to rebuild a school and provide new books for the island's unhappy children.
Cecil Jones pupils are studying volcanoes in geography lessons and were keen to help out.
