All three lifts at the George Yard, Braintree, shopping centre car park were out of use yesterday (Monday).

One of the elevators is currently under repair, the second broke down on Saturday and the third stopped working yesterday morning.

That meant stairs were the only option for people parked in the three-level Braintree Council run multi-storey.

Council car park boss Simon Taylor said: "We are having some work done on the lifts. It was scheduled so that all the lifts could be working in the run up to Christmas. Obviously one or two people are inconvenienced by this and we apologise for that."

Mr Taylor said four car park staff had been on hand to offer help to anyone who needed it. Two of the lifts were back in action by late yesterday (Monday) afternoon.
