In the latest round of the Essex League, the team from Runnymede Swimming Club achieved a creditable overall fourth place amongst a highly competitive field.

The closely-fought event saw excellent winning performances from Lauren Hunt in the girls' under-13 33m breast- stroke and Adam Guiton in the boys' under-15 33m butterfly.

Adam followed up his solo win with another first place in the medley relay with teammates Alan Jarrett, Gareth Henson and Michael Charles.

Runnymede's evening started well with an early win by Nick Ison in the open age group butterfly sprint event.

Gareth Henson, Neil Thompson and head coach Paul Eveleigh then joined Nick to score maximum points for another first position in the open medley relay.

In a very fast under-11 33m freestyle race, nine-year-old Matthew Scott gained a good second position, being pipped by the slimmest of margins.

Lauren Hunt completed a successful evening's competition with second place in the under-13 medley relay and a third in the freestyle relay along with Sarah Jarrett, Nadia Ray and Carly Wright.

Her individual achievements also included another second in the butterfly and a third place for the 33m freestyle.

The club's successes continued with some fine racing from Neil Thompson, which earned him two second places in the open 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke.

There were also good second positions for Gareth Henson in the under-15 100m breaststroke and Karen Somerville in the under-15 years 33m backstroke.

Runnymede's solid overall performance was aided by third positions from:

Emma Buckle (Girls U11 backstroke); Matthew Scott (Boys u/11 breaststroke); Harry Smith, James Troke, Aaron Eveleigh and John Guiton (Boys u/13 medley relay); Natalie Byford (Girls u/15 butterfly and 100m freestyle); Mel Eveleigh (Girls open butterfly).
