One of Harwich's largest employers has been sold in a multi-million pound deal.

The sale of Carless chemical refinery in Parkeston was completed yesterday (Monday) to the tune of £120 million.

London-based company Petrochem UK has bought Carless Refinery and Marketing from its parent company Repsol.

The combined business will now be known as Petrochem Carless.

David Lubbock, managing director of Petrochem, said: "Petrochem Carless will be a truly world class business, providing great opportunities for its customers and employees."

Petrochem, a Spanish company, put Carless on the market last year. It was founded in 1859 and is today one of the biggest refiners of specialist hydrocarbons in the UK.
