Five Lakes took an experienced team to Toothill Golf Club in this years Daily Mail knockout tournament.

The early morning frost made putting on the first nine greens something of a lottery although this did not stop Five Lakes star performer Darren Hall (handicap 6) take an early three hole advantage over Toothill's Perry Schuler (handicap 7), Darren then reinforced his authority and won his match on the 14th hole.

Ashley Sadler (hcp 8) who put up a resilient fight and was eventually beaten by the Toothill captain Graham Tansley (hcp 7) 5 and 4.

A similar outcome fell on Five lakes Mike Taylor (hcp 8) who fell to Toothill's Peter Muir (hcp 12).

The final pairing of Pat McSweeney jnr (hcp 5) of Five Lakes' and Barney Cameron (hcp 9) of Toothill provided both sets of supporters areal battle with Pat Mcsweeny eventually winning on the 18th hole with a splendid birdie.

This meant that under the rules of the competition, both McSweeney and Cameron going down the first to decide the result.

McSweeney, who was giving away a shot on the stroke index 3, eventually conceded defeat to the local man, thus giving Toothill a narrow but deserved 3-2 victory.
