British Transport Police praised quick-thinking railway staff who tackled a blaze after someone set fire to an evening train.
As the 10.45pm Ipswich to Colchester train pulled out of Kelvedon station on Sunday, the fire alarm went off and the driver stopped the train.
When he went back to check the carriages he found part of one carriage was ablaze, but the fire was being tackled by staff using the on-board fire extinguishers.
Det Con Alan Reed, of the British Transport Police, praised the First Great Eastern staff's swift actions in extinguishing the fire.
Witnesses should call Det Con Reed on 01473 601978 or 0800 405040.
