The factors affecting the economy in the next year will be examined by an expert at the next breakfast briefing of the Business Association of Basildon District.

Senior economist at HSBC bank Mark Berrisford-Smith will be the guest speaker at the meeting in The Belvedere, Crays Hill, starting at 8am on Thursday February 15.

Tony Hector, manager of HSBC's branch in Southernhay, Basildon, said: "Mr Berrisford-Smith will be talking about our bank's views on the economy and progress in 2001.

"He will also be speaking on the impact of the budget and the anticipated General Election." The briefing, which includes a full English breakfast, is free to members of the association and £10 to non-members.
