Southend United have parted company with their director of youth Peter Trevivian.

The 46-year-old, who had two-years left on his Roots Hall contract, left the Third Division club after coming to a mutual agreement.

Breaking the news of the split, Blues owner Ron Martin said on Friday: "After five years with Southend and following recent restructuring, Peter is leaving us to develop his career outside the club.

"We would like to thank Peter for his contribution to the club throughout his period with us and to wish him every success in the future."

Trevivian was brought to Roots Hall as number two to former Blues manager Alvin Martin.

However, it wasn't long before he was fronting Southend's youth development scheme - a role he had previously held with Ipswich Town - unearthing players like current first team stars Leon Johnson and David McSweeney.

No immediate successor for Trevivian has been named, but Blues' reserve team manager Rob Newman is expected to front the club's youth department, which is set for an overhaul, in the short term.
