A date has been set for this year's Summer Fun Day at Central Park, Harold Hill.

The repeat event will go ahead on Saturday July 21 at the playground on Gooshays Drive, behind the swimming pool, with organisers vowing that this year's extravaganza will be bigger and better than last year's bash.

The date was agreed at the first in a series of planning meetings held last week which met with a positive response.

Community Development Worker, Jane Impey, said: "There was a really encouraging turnout of around 30 people, which was more than we had expected.

"Everyone had lots of ideas and enthusiasm which is what we are looking for, and the wheels are now in motion towards July's fun day.

"This is a really good start and already there are several local community groups which are getting involved, and they will be taking part in the event."

This year's event will coincide with the fun fair at Central Park, but there is still much hard work to do for Jane and the team and they are encouraging more people to come along to the next planning meeting.

Jane added: "To have such high enthusiasm at an early stage is really reassuring and is a sign that people clearly enjoyed last year's event and are already looking forward to it in the summer.

"But there is plenty of room for more people to come and get involved. We are still looking for volunteers to come forward and help out and they are welcome to come to the next meeting on Thursday March 1 at St George's Church, Chippenham Road, Harold Hill."
