Two teenagers proved how binding their friendship was - by tying themselves together for 48 hours to raise money for charity.

Kelly Oakley and Angela Conway, of St Benedict's College, Colchester, joined themselves at the wrist for two days to make cash for victims of the Indian earthquake.

The best friends, who are both 15 years old, had to eat, sleep and share lessons side-by-side.

Kelly said: "We wanted to do something to help and didn't want to do the normal things to raise money.

"I came up with this idea and as we spend a lot of time together, we thought it would be quite easy. We have got on fine apart from a few little tiffs.

"We had to make a bed up on the floor to sleep. It was quite uncomfortable and we didn't go to sleep until 3.30am. It has all been worth it to raise the money though," Kelly added.

The teenagers hope to raise about £200 for the appeal.

Headteacher Alan Whelan said: "I was impressed when they came up with the idea. "It was an imaginative way to raise money for a good cause."

Friends will be friends - teenagers Kelly Oakley and Angela Conway, both 15, tied themselves together for charity.
