Work is continuing to restore normal rail services after a landslip caused severe delays to trains running between Southend Victoria and Liverpool Street.

Problems arose after the earth slipped onto the rail line between Billericay stations prompting reduced speed limits and cancellations.

Passengers hoping to travel from Southend Victoria to Liverpool Street were advised to switch to the c2c rail line between Southend Central and Fenchurch Street, where their tickets were accepted as valid.

Today there was to be a modified peak service with fewer trains.

A spokesman for First Great Eastern said: "Customers are advised that Southend line tickets will be valid on c2c services, available for use at Chelmsford, and that car parking is available at Brentwood."

Theo Steel, marketing manager for First Great Eastern, said today (Wednesday): "We are now working with Railtrack to restore the two lines by this evening. "
