Mark Flynn came to Old Southendian's rescue as they salvaged a 1-1 draw with Dereham in their Crowe Insurance Premier B match.

Old Boys opened with a display of flowing hockey, but it was Dereham who took the lead after a neat breakaway.

However, Flynn earned Old Boys a deserved draw when he smashed home the ball from a few centimetres out.

Old Southendian second XI grabbed a 3-2 win over Ipswich, while the third team had a 3-1 win over Colchester thanks to goals from Sam Clarke, Riz Khan and Matt Wade.

The Old Boys fourth side had a tremendous 2-1 win in a tough match against Maldon.

They were on the back foot for most of the game, but stole goals late in each half through Phil Herrtage and winger Andy Lewis.

John Pratt, who bottled up the Maldon playmaker, and Mike Ayub also played well for Old Boys.

Phil Grey's penalty save helped the fifth side beat Ipswich 3-1, goals coming from C Trask, Aldworth and Argent.

The sixth team had a 2-2 draw with Witham.
