Police launched a manhunt for a gunman who terrorised four people in Chelmsford.

Twenty police officers - including the police helicopter and dog handlers - hunted for the robber who demanded cash from two teenage girls and stole £80 from a Chinese takeaway.

The man in his 20s held two 18-year-old girls at gunpoint near the town centre about 9pm on Monday night and demanded money. When they refused he ran off towards Rectory Lane.

The same man went into a Chinese takeaway where he pulled the gun and made off with £80.

An Essex Police spokesman describing the man as "potentially dangerous" said the girls were shaken and the owners of the Chinese takeaway - a husband and wife aged in their 30s - were "upset and distressed".

The robber was white, aged 22 to 25, 5ft 5ins tall of slim build. His hair was styled in a french crop and he had large ears that stuck out.
