Long-awaited signs to direct motorists from the M25 to Harwich will be installed in the next few months.

Tendring Council has been calling for the signs since 1998 when businesses operating out of Harwich International Port raised the issue.

The council took up the matter with the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) to call for adequate sign-posting for the town.

It also enlisted the help of Harwich MP Ivan Henderson.

Now Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the DETR, Lord Whitty, has said the order has been placed for the design and manufacture of signs for Harwich on the M25.

They will be placed at either side of the motorway at junction 28, the A12 turn-off.
