Over 400 sponsored walkers have signed up to take part in City's 'Return to the Borough' 10-mile walk on Saturday, March 3, which will leave the Billericay Town FC ground at 11am.

There will be a staggered start for walkers with the aim of all meeting up again at Dovedale College in Moulsham Street before assembling for a mass walk into the town centre and on to the Civic Centre.

The plan is for walkers to be flagged away at the start by several former popular City players, such as the legendary goal scorer Tony Butcher and former defender Ollie Hopkins.

Chairman Peter Stroud is hoping the number of walkers will continue to increase as the day approaches and he is still looking for a local firm to join others as main sponsors of the event.

"The organisation is going well and the more sponsorship each walker obtains the better for the club, which will also be making a donation to the Farleigh Hospice from the monies collected on the day," he said.

"It will really show the feeling there is for the club and why everyone concerned is keen to help us return to the borough," he added. "We also welcome the support being given by the non-footballing people to the club.''

Any firm wishing to help with sponsorship should contact the chairman at his office on 0207 375 3757.
